What Is The Count of Fabric?

https://www.shuolantextile.com/

The fabric count is generally expressed in terms of the British count (S) in the "fixed weight system", which is a form of indicating the thickness of the yarn. The count is also related to the length and quality of the yarn. To better understand the concept of count, let me give you an example: for example, if you make 60 yarns of 1 meter in length from 1 tael of cotton, it is 60S, and if you make 80 yarns of 1 meter in length, it is 80S.

Therefore, as the count of yarn increases, the yarn will become finer and the cloth will be thinner, so the fabric is very comfortable and soft, but the high count means higher requirements for the quality of raw materials and higher textile technology, and the cost of the fabric will also rise.

As mentioned before, the higher the count, the finer the yarn, but not that the higher the count of the fabric, the better, we have to choose the count according to the specific use of the items, bedding, and the count requirements are not high, mainly 21s, 30s, 40s, 60s, 30 to 60s more commonly used. In summer, you can use 40S, the fabric will be more breathable and thin, and in winter you can choose 21S fabric, the fabric will be more thick and warm.

Which one is better, 40s or 60s?

In terms of quality, 60S fabric is finer than 40S yarn, and high count fabric has higher requirements for raw material quality, and the price of 60S fabric will be higher, but it is not very suitable for making bedding, so if you produce summer clothes, 60S is probably better. Of course, there are also fabrics with 80S or more, and they are more often used to produce high-grade suits.
